Sleaford Town 0 Lutterworth Town 5 (60)
Several games were
called off due to flooding so we found ourselves in the car park at
Eslaforde Park, home of the Green Army, aka Sleaford Town. Parking is
free and you can hardly get closer, but if it's a big game you'd
probably be better parking in the town centre. Entry is so cheap too,
£6 for me, Sam was free (16 and under), and the programme only added
£1 on top.
Perfect timing meant we
had twenty minutes to grab some food, although the options are
extremely limited. No pie, no burger, so scores were always going to
be low. What we did order was chips with curry sauce and a Bovril,
and for the two of us the total cost was an brilliant £3.40! Superb,
Sleaford, superb.
The game itself was not
high in quality. Times seem to be hard for the green army, who had
just one sub on the bench, and manager Jamie Shaw had to play as
goalkeeper. He actually played a blinder and kept the score down to
0-1 at half time with some nice reflex saves and quite a lot of Kiko
Casilla-style running way out of the penalty area. Sam and I decided
to adopt the snowflake practice of using “jazz hands” instead of
clapping, so every time something good happened on the pitch we must
have looked like a couple of Al Jolson impersonators (ask your mum).
During the break we were treated to a sad, sad sight of one single
player from each team kicking a ball around in opposite halves of the
pitch, tragic. In the second half the visitors added a further 4
goals and hit the woodwork twice.
Both teams gave their
all, and although there was no tiki-taca football it was very
entertaining. Plus you can hear every word the players say, which is
an eye-opener. For a total outlay of £10.40 you can't go wrong.
And so to the scoring:
Atmosphere 1 Small
crowd, and our jazz hands didn't add to the volume
Food & Drink 2.5
Little choice but what we had was splendid
Stadium 2.5 Neat, tidy,
ideal for this level
Value For Money 5 Just
over a tenner? Unbeatable VFM
Bonus point for Bovril,
half a point for half time entertainment.
Final score 12.5 Not
bottom of the league, good work Sleaford Town, see you again soon!
